The Alfred Berkowitz Gallery at the University of Michigan-Dearborn is proud to present the juried exhibition for its 2017 Open Competition. This exhibition showcases and celebrates thirty-two Michigan artists and displays artwork in a wide variety of media and styles including paintings, drawings, photography, sculpture, collage, glass, and mixed media works. The Berkowitz is pleased to support and encourage Michigan artists with this annual exhibition and to share these remarkable works with the campus and greater community.

Renowned local artist and curator Bruce B. Winslow served as the juror for this year’s competition. Bruce B. Winslow earned a Master of Fine Arts (1988) from Pratt Institute in New York City in painting and art history and a Bachelor of Fine Arts (1980) from Central Michigan University in painting. He is recently retired as the Director of the Alden B. Dow Museum of Science and Art of the Midland Center for the Arts after 29 years. Bruce has extensively curated and juried many exhibitions over the decades. He continues painting large scale abstract works and is a prolific singer/songwriter. Bruce exhibits his work across the Great Lakes states.

Bruce will speak and present the awards at 6pm during the opening reception.
Complimentary hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be provided.
